Boskone was fun, well what I saw. I went in for a couple meetings and it being the publishing world those ended up happening in the bar. What I did see was very encouraging, Boskone had a lot more kids and adults below middle age than some I’ve been too. The group dinner at the Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen was great. And per usual, providing the tourists with a guide to how to walk in Boston was worth a laugh or six all by itself.
I mentioned a history of South Africa to a couple people. This is the one History of South Africa by Leonard Thompson. Very interesting, covers a lot of time and is written clearly. A historical figure worth looking at was Mosheshwe, the man who put the Sotho people together. Very canny politician and warrior. He was one of the few independent African leaders able to talk Europeans into selling him guns at that time.
